The World Container Index (WCI) decreased by 3.5% to $1,768.33 per FEU in Week 34, marking the first decline in four weeks. This represents a 70.5% decrease compared to the same week last year. The index is currently 83% below its peak in September 2021 and 34% lower than the 10-year average. Despite a return to more normal prices, it remains 24% higher than the pre-pandemic average in 2019. Freight rates from Shanghai to Rotterdam and Los Angeles also decreased, while rates from Rotterdam to New York increased. Drewry expects east-west spot rates to remain stable in the coming weeks.
