India's hopes for a significant transfer of technology (ToT) in defense deals with the US have been dashed. While negotiations are still ongoing, it is reported that the ToT component for General Electric's GE F414 engines will be capped at around 80%. Additionally, there will only be an assembly line and maintenance facility for the MQ-9B Reaper drones. Indian officials have acknowledged that total ToT is unlikely from any country, regardless of the close ties. The key question remains as to which technologies will be shared and which will be withheld.
