United Parcel Service (UPS) has opened its first India Technology Centre in Chennai, following on from similar centres in the US and Europe. The company plans to invest $15-20m in India and create 1,000 jobs by 2025. The centre currently employs 100 people, of whom 22% are women, with plans to increase this to 30%. UPS is looking to develop engineering and logistics technologies, as well as explore automation, robotics and generative AI. India also offers strategic opportunities for UPS, with plans to increase the number of dedicated airport gateways in the country.
