Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced the establishment of an inland waterways authority to promote and expand water transport in the state. Adityanath directed officials to study the functioning of similar authorities and prepare a draft proposal. The proposed body will coordinate with the Indian Inland Waterways Authority and regulate activities related to inland waterway transport and tourism. It will also ensure compliance with environmental and safety laws, conduct hydrographic surveys, and analyse data on inland waterway traffic. The state transport minister is likely to be the ex-officio chairman of the authority.
