Stung by skyrocketing biz class air fares, Chidambaram slams govt - BusinessLine

Former Finance Minister, P Chidambaram, has criticised Air India and Vistara for charging what he sees as exorbitant business class fares of ₹63,000 ($860) and ₹57,000 for flights between Delhi and Chennai, respectively. However, non-stop flights remained in the normal range with one-way business class tickets costing ₹25,000 to ₹28,000. Airline prices have surged in the past 45 days to the inconvenience of passengers, leading the Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia to issue advisories to carriers not to escalate fares; fares have since dropped by as much as 50%.
