The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata will soon begin regular cargo movement to the northeastern states of India through Bangladesh. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways is in talks with Customs authorities and the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate the operations. The port aims to improve logistics and storage facilities to benefit businesses. Additionally, the port plans to double its capacity in four-five years and establish a logistic park in Kolkata. Night navigation facilities are also proposed to increase vessel traffic.
