Indian Railways is aiming to increase its share in the transportation of goods in and out, as well as across the country, due to its increasing revenues and cargo volumes handled per year. The railway network has immense potential to enhance earnings and expand growth- statistics from the last five years illustrate notable growth in revenue and cargo. In April of 2023, the Indian Railways recorded freight loading of 126.46 million tonnes, making meaningful progress in recent years. The country's transportation pie is expected to shift from roads to more environmentally friendly rail transportation by 2050.
