The Indian Railways is set to introduce redesigned double-decker auto transport wagons in the next two weeks. The new wagons, named ACT1 (auto car taller wagon), will be able to transport SUVs on both decks, unlike the current wagons which can only load them on one deck. This will allow for more cars, especially SUVs, to be transported, reducing emissions and costs. The redesign of the wagons has been developed in 18 months and has already received permits to run on designated routes.
