Railways likely to transport over 880 million tonnes of coal by FY25 - BusinessLine

Indian Railways is expected to transport around 883 million tonnes of coal by March 2025, according to Power Minister RK Singh. In the last fiscal year, Indian Railways moved 728 million tonnes of coal, with 569 million tonnes supplied to the power sector. The increased supply of coal is crucial to meet India's rising power demand, which grew by 9.5% in FY23. The Railways have identified 40 projects for the augmentation of coal evacuation, with 17 already completed and 23 in progress.
