Paradip Port in Bhubaneswar, India, has become the top port in the country for handling coastal shipping, particularly thermal coal. During FY 2022-23, the port handled 42.2 million metric tonnes of coastal thermal coal, a 50% increase from the previous year. The port recently began transporting thermal coal to Gencos on the West Coast to meet their power demand. The initiative is expected to attract more Gencos to use Paradip Port for coastal shipping.
