Lt Gen Bhagat provided facilities like canteen stores, postal facilities, and medical coverage in the spirit of the Geneva Convention, even vacating his own troops' accommodation for the prisoners. 90,000 Pakistani Army troops were taken as prisoners after the 1971 war, which led to the creation of Bangladesh.
