Apple may shift 18% of its global iPhone production to India by 2025 due to the government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for mobile phones, according to a Bank of America report. Apple could potentially increase its production if its suppliers expand in India. The scheme aims to triple India's domestic production to $126bn and increase exports by five times by 2026. Mobile phones contribute to 21.5% of India’s electronics demand, but the low local value addition of 18% in production has faced criticism. The PLI scheme aims to reduce imports and boost exports, improving the macroeconomic outlook.
