Pacific island countries have discussed their readiness for the mandatory implementation of Maritime Single Window (MSW) from January 2024. MSW allows for the digital exchange of information regarding ships' arrival, stay, and departure at ports. Amendments to the FAL Convention make MSW implementation compulsory for ports. Fiji, Solomon Islands, and Tonga provided updates on their preparations during the Pacific Maritime Transport Alliance Conference. Experts explained the benefits and challenges of implementing MSW, with recommendations for establishing a legal framework, analyzing business processes, and implementing technical solutions. Representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency also attended the event.
