The ONDC platform, created to support e-commerce in India, has addressed concerns raised by internet liberty groups over its lack of a data protection bill. The company has released a set of business rules clarifying that it does not participate in transactions and any sensitive data is owned by buyer and seller apps. Applicable law and associated rules will be adhered to when collecting and storing data. One hundred thousand providers, including taxi drivers and food and beverage sellers, currently use the platform which is onboarding participants more slowly than competitors, and the challenge is creating awareness among stakeholders.
