The Russian Armed Forces plan to replace the An-26 and An-72 with the Il-212 light military transport aircraft equipped with PD-8 turbojet engines. The Il-112V project will undergo significant revisions to accommodate the new engines, including redesigning the wings and landing gear. The PD-8 engines will be positioned above the wing to allow for operation on unprepared runways. The cargo capacity and dimensions of the Il-212 are still being determined, but it is expected to have a higher payload capacity. The new model with PD-8 engines may take at least three years to debut.
