Deputy Commissioner Mullai Mugilan MP chaired an environmental public hearing for the proposed multipurpose cargo berth at New Mangalore Port. The New Mangalore Port Authority aims to develop a new cargo berth to handle iron ore, fertilisers, sand, machineries, and other goods. The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board conducted the hearing, and suggestions and objections will be sent to the government and the Ministry of Environment for further action. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 214 crore, and the port has implemented an Environmental Management Plan. Some members of the public criticized the short notice for the hearing.
