New INSTC Transport Corridor Reduces Russia's Dependence On ... - Russia Briefing

Since 2011, Asian investors in the Eurasian Economic Union have been provided with investment advisory services. Russia's "Pivot to the East" requires efficient trade transport routes with Asian partners. The International North-South Transportation Corridor (INSTC) may soon provide an additional route from St. Petersburg to India that bypasses Kazakhstan. The route would allow freight from China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan to be shipped via the Caspian Sea to Russia's port of Astrakhan. Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are also planning a railway that would provide an alternative route to deliver goods to Russia and Europe bypassing Kazakhstan.
