Nanotech in road construction - BusinessLine

The adoption of sophisticated vehicles in India is increasing, but road construction technology is lagging behind leaving vehicle users with a bumpy ride. India's roadways contain over 63.73 lakh km, which includes 1.87 lakh km of state highways, and over 59 lakh km of other roads controlled by districts, civic bodies and panchayats. The government and Indian Roads Congress (IRC) have encouraged new technologies, but IRC's 90-year-old construction code permits the use of only generic technologies and materials, said SK Nirmal. One notable innovation comes from Vadodara-based Zydex Industries. Its technology costs 5-7% more than ordinary methods but results in roads with 2.5 times the lifespan.
