According to Alphaliner's latest report, MSC and other regional carriers are reducing their Transpacific capacity, with the number of ships dropping from 674 to 514 and TEUs decreasing from 5.56 million to 4.86 million. Most of the vessels being withdrawn are from MSC and other long-haul newcomers who entered the trade during the Covid-19 boom. MSC removed 35% of its Transpacific capacity. By the end of the month, all newcomers except Swire Shipping will have retreated. Fleet capacity between Asia and North America is down 12.6% year-on-year despite overall fleet growth.
