The Coal Ministry in India is working towards faster and eco-friendly evacuation of 1 billion tonnes of coal, focusing on enhancing ease of living and doing business in the sector. The ministry plans to introduce mechanized coal handling through 'first-mile connectivity' projects to reduce truck movement and air pollution. A total of 61 mines producing over 2 million tonnes per annum have been identified for mechanized coal handling. The ministry is also working on improving rail connectivity for efficient coal transport.
