The Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, informed the Lok Sabha that 111 waterways, including 5 existing and 106 new ones, have been declared National Waterways (NWs) under the National Waterways Act. Out of these, 26 have been found viable for cargo and passenger movement and development initiatives have been taken up in 20 of them.
