Ministry weighs feasibility of coal shipments from Meghalaya to ... - India Shipping News

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways in India is considering the possibility of transporting coal shipments from Meghalaya's mines to Bangladesh through Pandu port. The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has appointed an operator for the port, and trial runs could begin this year. The coal would be transported from Meghalaya to Assam and then to Bangladesh's Srirajganj port via the Brahmaputra river. Customs issues are being worked out, and India is dredging the waterway to make it navigable. This move would improve access, reduce time taken, and lower logistics costs.
