Russia is showing interest in participating in the work of the Arctic Council and seeking cooperation with non-western states in the Arctic region. Russian ambassador, Nikolay Korchunov, stated that Russia is interested in effective work within the council. Moscow is also looking to cooperate with non-Arctic groups and states outside of the West. The Norwegian chairmanship has expressed a wish to resume activity in the council's working groups, but faces challenges from other Arctic countries. Russia's participation in the council's activities depends on its interests being respected.
