AP Moller-Maersk, a global logistics company, has stated that only a few shipbreaking yards in Alang, Gujarat, meet human rights and environmental protection standards. India's ship recycling capacity has fallen, with no large vessels coming to Alang. The government has decided to delay plans to double ship recycling capacity. Experts attribute the decline to non-compliance with European Union norms. Additionally, Indian shipbreaking yards lack facilities to handle hazardous waste, and workers lack medical and hygiene facilities. Maersk is investing in developing logistics solutions, including land transportation, warehousing, and rail services. The Dedicated Freight Corridor has reduced travel times for cargo in India.
