A.P. Moller – Maersk has formed a partnership with SunGas Renewables to produce green methanol for its container vessels. SunGas will develop multiple facilities in the US to produce green methanol, with the first facility expected to be operational in 2026. Maersk aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. The partnership is part of Maersk's strategy to increase global production capacity for green methanol. SunGas will use its System 1000 platform to convert residues from the forestry and wood products industries into green methanol.
