The Drewry World Container Index (WCI) rose to USD 1,536 due to strong transpacific China-US trade. The Shanghai-Los Angeles trade reached a 5-month high of USD 1,965 with a 24.2% growth in 3 weeks. The Shanghai-New York trade recorded a weekly gain of over 7% at USD 2,906. Other trade routes, such as Rotterdam-New York, hit a 12-year low at USD 1,640. Rates on the China-Mediterranean route dipped 2% but remain 20% higher than the pandemic lows. Drewry predicts a marginal decline in East-West spot rates in the coming weeks.
