India has moved up to 22nd place in international shipments category in the World Bank's Logistic Performance Index (LPI) Report 2023, an improvement from the 44th position in 2018. The country has also earned the 38th rank in the overall LPI score. The report attributed the reasons for the vastly improved performance to substantially quicker dwell time and the best turnaround time by Indian ports. The achievement was due to a sizeable investment made in ports and shipping infrastructure upgrades, resulting in 86% increased capacity and 150% increased operationalisation of PPP projects, while almost 300 MMT extra capacity was added during this period.
