India is set to have its first polar research vessel within the next five years. The vessel will be used for logistics and resupply missions, as well as research in the Southern Ocean. The estimated cost of the vessel is $310 million, and the government is in talks with other countries to potentially build it in India. India currently operates three research stations in Antarctica. The country is also progressing with its Samudrayaan project, aimed at exploring the deep ocean and its resources.
