India and France have announced plans to extend their defence cooperation by supporting the joint development of combat aircraft engines and engines for helicopters. The announcement comes after a month-long agreement between Indian aerospace company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and US-based General Electric (GE) Aerospace to produce engines for the Indian Air Force's Light Combat Aircraft Mk2 jets. India has also been in talks with French aircraft engine manufacturer Safran SA for developing engines for its fifth generation fighter aircraft. Both countries have expressed a commitment to co-developing advanced defence technologies.
