The Ministry of Coal in India is promoting Rail-Sea-Rail (RSR) transportation for efficient coal transport in an effort to reduce emissions. This multimodal system allows for seamless transportation of coal from mines to ports and then to end-users, improving logistic efficiency. The ministry aims to increase the share of railways in coal evacuation from 55% to 75% by 2030. The use of RSR is expected to reduce congestion, create export opportunities, and have a lower carbon footprint compared to traditional methods.
