India has exempted countries such as Mauritius, Bhutan, and Singapore from its ban on rice exports. The exemption is based on food security reasons. India, the world's top rice exporter, has agreed to sell 79,000 tons of rice to Bhutan, 50,000 tons to Singapore, and 14,000 tons to Mauritius. Several nations, including Guinea, are urging India to exempt them from the export restrictions. This comes as concerns about global supply shortages and higher food prices grow. India currently has restrictions on all varieties of rice exports.
