India has decided to allow the export of rice to Singapore to meet the food security requirements of the Southeast nation. The decision was made due to the special relationship and strategic partnership between India and Singapore. Formal orders will be issued shortly. This comes after India introduced safeguards on rice exports to prevent the export of non-basmati white rice, which is currently prohibited. The export policy for non-basmati white rice has been revised from "free" to "prohibited" to ensure domestic food security.
