India and Bangladesh have discussed plans to start negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA) to boost economic ties between the two countries. The talks took place during a meeting of the Joint Working Group on Trade (JWG) last week in Dhaka, where issues such as port restrictions, the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), and infrastructure development were also discussed. The annual meetings aim to resolve trade barriers and improve trade facilitation between India and Bangladesh. Bilateral trade has decreased from USD 18.13 billion in 2021-22 to USD 14.2 billion in 2022-23.
