India has permitted traders to export their Non-Basmati White rice cargoes that were stuck at ports after a sudden ban on exports. The ban on non-basmati white rice exports trapped thousands of tonnes at ports and caused losses for traders. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has now allowed shipments if traders pay the export duty by July 20. Around 150,000 tonnes of rice will be shipped to East African and West African countries. India is the world's largest rice exporter and the export curbs have increased global rice prices.
