STMicroelectronics has released a dev kit to simplify the prototyping, testing and evaluating of advanced asset tracking applications. The kit includes multiple boards for various sensors, GNSS positioning, and communications capabilities. Energy efficiency is a crucial consideration, and the system must be secure and safe from hacking. The first step in tracking assets is gathering location information, and raw GNSS data only provides limited accuracy. Correction signals to GPS navigation equipment improve accuracy, as can satellite-based augmentation systems. Once the asset's location and condition have been determined, the information must be communicated securely.
