Hapag-Lloyd's first dual-fuel LNG megamax containership, the Berlin Express, has begun its voyage to the Middle East. Hapag-Lloyd initially ordered six ultra large containerships but expanded the order to 12. The new class of ships has 20% more capacity than previous models and are powered by MAN ME-GI engines that can run on marine diesel or LNG. The ships will operate at a speed of up to 22 knots and improve Hapag-Lloyd's competitiveness in Europe-Far East trade. The entire class of 12 ships is expected to be delivered by the end of 2024.
