The Indian government is developing a framework to accurately assess the country's logistics costs, according to a senior Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade official. Estimates currently place logistics costs at around 13-14% of GDP, but the new framework aims to outline the components of this cost and how to measure it. The task force responsible for this includes representatives from Niti Aayog, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, and academic experts. The government has launched a national logistics policy and the PM Gati Shakti scheme to reduce logistics costs and increase industry competitiveness.
