European Commission Executive Vice President, Valdis Dombrovskis, has urged Russia to renew a deal allowing the safe export of Ukrainian grain through Black Sea ports. Dombrovskis stated that Russian restrictions on shipping Ukrainian grain were creating problems for Kyiv and developing countries. Russia has been using grain as a weapon, he said. The European Union has provided alternative trading routes for Ukraine, known as solidarity lanes, and has supported the country through defense and financial aid. Some 45 million tonnes of grain and other products have been exported through alternative routes via Poland and Romania.
