India loses food worth Rs 1 lakh crore annually due to inadequate post-harvest management and logistics, according to the Government of India. This accounts for 38% of total energy usage in the global food system. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare is working on developing a cold chain through the Mission on Integrated Development of Horticulture, providing incentives to stakeholders. Experts at a recent summit emphasized the need for collaboration to reduce food loss and achieve a 30% reduction in methane emissions by 2030. The summit aimed to prioritize and develop long-term solutions for a greener and more climate resilient cold chain.
