Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel India Ltd (AM/NS India) plans to expand its fleet of Indian-flagged ships to secure supply chains amidst a shortage of Indian-registered ships in the market. The steel maker's logistics subsidiary, AM/NS Shipping & Logistics, has already purchased two Kamsarmax vessels and is close to buying two more from the second-hand market. The company requires 200 ships a year to move cargo along the coast and is looking to expand its fleet mostly in the handy size vessel segment. The growth comes as steel plant capacity is expanded from 8.6 million tonnes.
