Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the transportation of petroleum products from NRL to Bangladesh. This marks a milestone in utilizing the Brahmaputra waterways for trade and commerce. NRL plans to export 200 TMT of products per year to Bangladesh. Meeting the refinery expansion deadline is critical for achieving the targets set under the MoU. Infrastructural development in inland water transport and the construction of a new terminal in Assam are expected to revive commercial river transportation.
